The BBMP banned the sale and slaughter of meat on August 31 citing the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi.

Story so far: The BBMP issued a circular banning the sale of meat today. Bans of a similar nature have been issued in the past as well on the occasions of Martyrs’ Day and Janmashtami this year.

  • All the stalls that fall under the limits of BBMP will be prohibited from selling and slaughtering meat according to the Joint Director (Animal Husbandry).

Additional arrangements: To ensure that the festival goes smoothly, the BBMP has also asked all its officials to ensure that there is no delay in issuing permissions for installations of Ganesh idols. They were also instructed to look at all the applications thoroughly before granting permission. Firefighting mechanisms have also been arranged during the procession.
