At the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru on Friday became the first city in the nation to receive a 3D bioprinting Center of Excellence.
Story so far: An agreement between IISc and CELLINK, a bioprinting business that is a subsidiary of BICO, a bioconvergence startup, led to the establishment of the centre. It is kept at the Center for BioSystems Science and Engineering at IISc (BSSE).
- The centre will focus on working specifically on healthcare related to heart, bone, cartilage, and cancer.
Role of centre: The centre will give researchers access to 3D bioprinting equipment, allowing them to move more quickly on important applications with the ultimate goal of bettering health outcomes.
- Its primary goal is to equip scientists with the resources they need to enhance research in the fields of tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, and drug discovery.
