Bengaluru will get a first-of-its-kind 3D-printed post office building.

Story so far: An upcoming post office in Halasuru is breaking construction conventions by using 3D printing technology. The project, undertaken by Larsen & Toubro (L&T), is expected to be completed within 45 days.

  • Instead of humans manually assembling and layering brick and mortar, specialised 3D printers create precise, layer-by-layer construction of the building.
  • It’s a first-of-its-kind construction in India with a limited requirement of cement heaps and a construction crew.

Why it matters? In the housing and construction sector, 3D printing can be used to build various structures like villas, military barracks, single-floor schools, post offices, and factories. Its lifespan and cost are comparable to conventional buildings.
