The BBMP plans to extend the pay-and-park system to over 600 roads in Bengaluru.
Story so far: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is set to introduce the pay-and-park system for 24,387 two-wheelers and 2,834 cars in all eight zones in the city. The plan will be implemented on a total of 684 roads based on a ground report and the revenue from this project will be used for providing non-motorised transport (NMT) services in the city.
- The civic body will instruct private firms to collect parking fees as it has already done on 85 roads.
- Fresh tenders for the same will be floated by the BBMP by October-end.
Additional vehicles: Apart from two-wheelers and cars, officials have also earmarked parking spaces for micro-mobility vehicles (eg, Yulu), people with disabilities, autorickshaws and light commercial vehicles. Cycles will continue to enjoy free parking. Additionally, a roadside space will be designated for the loading and unloading of goods.
