Since a trial project for a self-help bicycle repair kiosk near the Dr BR Ambedkar Metro Station was set up in December 2021, cyclists in Bengaluru have been hoping for more such kiosks to be installed in the city.

What’s it about? A free service offered by the DULT (Directorate of Urban Land Transport) called Pedal Port allows cyclists to make quick fixes to their bikes if they break down mid-travel. The production of 12 pedal ports is almost finished, according to DULT commissioner V Manjula, and they will be positioned close to metro stations before work on the next phase gets underway.

  • To adjust loose joints and fill flat tyres, a pedal port has a lot of tools, including allen keys, screwdrivers, and spanners of various sizes. Additionally, cyclists can place their bicycles on top of the port while mending them.

Reasons for delay: Manjula explained the delay by stating that the pedal port at the Ambedkar metro station has been under review for improvements the entire time. Central Manufacturing Technology Institute (CMTI) has offered to sponsor roughly eight pedal ports and enhance the design at DULT’s request.
