๐ Request to resume MRTS services
Suburban passengers demand the resumption of certain cross-sectional services.
What’s it about? Over two months ago, MRTS train services from Chennai Beach resumed. However, the Southern Railway has yet to resume services from Avadi, Pattabiram, and Tiruvallur to Velachery. These routes are used regularly by IT employees, college students, and employees from Chepauk and the Secretariat.
- MRTS services were halted between Chennai Beach and Chintradipet stations due to railway line work that began in August 2023. Once it was completed, services resumed last October.
- Despite the resumption of services from Beach to Velachery, direct connectivity is still unavailable. 13 train services were operational before the fourth railway line work but were reduced to 8.
Unhappy passengers: The delayed arrival of direct trains to the Beach station affects those who want to change to the MRTS train that runs in 20-minute intervals. Some passengers now choose to board trains at Central Station and change to the MRTS at the Park Town Station.
