🧐 Did you know? Water supply for Chennai city was first designed in 1872 to meet the demands of its population. Water was diverted to Cholavaram and Red Hills. It was connected to the city through channels and supplied 32 million litres daily.
🎨 Capturing nature and emotion
A new exhibition showcases five contemporary Korean artists who convey pictorial elements and concepts.
What’s it about? The exhibition titled, “Love, Dream, Hope” features five Korean artists who convey pictorial concepts through visuals and emotion, inspired by nature. The artists showcased are Adia Kim, Kim Jae Ok, Kim Ok Suk, Lee Soon Hee, and Park Pi Lim.
- Adia Kim explores energy through the cycles of creation and extinction. Kim Jae Ok focuses on excursions. Kim Ok Suk uses brushwork to express the present.
- Lee Soon Hee wants to bring happiness to viewers by generating empathy with the subject. Park Pi Lim’s work represents an abstract and purposefully conceived painting with the theme, ‘Window of Thought’.
Inspiration from surroundings: The works on display all have a connection to nature through the visuals, energy, and emotions being expressed.
🛩️ Air Show
After nearly two decades, the Indian Air Force (AIF) will put on an air show in Chennai.
What’s it about? After 17 years, the IAF will put on an air show at Marina Beach to celebrate its 92nd Raising Day on October 6. The last time Chennai played host to such a show was in 2007 when the IAF showcased its Jaguar deep penetration strike aircraft.
- The upcoming air show will begin with the Akash Ganga skydiving team carrying the Tricolour and the Air Force flag. They’ll jump off an An-32 that will hover at 11,000 feet.
- The flypast will feature several aircraft, including the HAL Tejas, Sukhoi-30 MKIs and MiG-29s, performing formations like the Trishul and Arrowhead.
Other details: The theme of this year’s celebration is “Bharatiya Vayusena: Saksham, Sashakt aur Aatmanirbhar”, Indian Air Force: Capable, strong, and self-reliant. 71 aircraft will be on display during the two-hour show.
🌊 NGT’s instructions
The National Green Tribunal (NGT) asked the government to consider a water body on the reclaimed Race Course Club land.
What’s it about? The southern bench of the NGT asked the state government to consider creating a water body on the reclaimed land of the Madras Race Course Club in Guindy. The government has decided to take back the land following violations by the Club.
- Reports indicate the government plans to open a large park on the land. The NGT said a water body will help store excess water during the monsoon.
- During a previous hearing, the NGT told the government to deepen other lakes, like the Adambakkam and Madipakkam tanks, located downstream to help mitigate flooding.
Other instructions: The NGT also directed the Forest Department, and the Water Resources Department to identify any water body within the Guindy National Park to deepen.
🏍️ Ducati’s new showroom
Legendary motorcycle company Ducati opened its second dealership in Chennai.
What’s it about? The luxury motorcycle brand expanded its presence in the state with its second dealership in Chennai. Located on East Coast Road (ECR), the showroom delivered 10 bikes on its opening day.
- The new showroom has been established in partnership with Potenza Mercury Cranking Pvt Ltd and showcases the entire Ducati and Scrambler range of motorcycles.
- Spread across 7,500 sq ft, the dealership provides a luxurious space for clients to browse the company’s branded apparel and accessories. The dealership will also offer Ducati-approved pre-owned motorcycles.
Location matters: The dealership is located in Palavakkam, which connects Chennai and Pondicherry and is a favoured location for motorcycle enthusiasts.
