Panels and workshops: The 9th edition of City Scripts, hosted by the Indian Institute for Human Settlements (IIHS), revolves around “Text and Tapestry” this weekend. Themed panels and workshops merge literary and textile crafts, including a unique exploration of Bengaluru’s textile history.

  • Key events feature discussions on Indian languages, environmental issues, and the city’s rich textile narratives.

🎁 The Gift Caravan

Yogesh Suresh drives charity through Bengaluru with the innovative Gift Caravan initiative, promoting a culture of reciprocity and sustainability.

Give and take: The Gift Caravan, operating under the Bengaluru Creative Circus (BCC), circulates across Bengaluru, starting from Hebbal to Yeshwantpur, encouraging the community to swap items like clothes, appliances, and even phones.

  • Initiated in December 2023, this monthly event allows people to donate usable items and pick something new from the collection.
  • Popular items include toasters, cameras, and even vintage Blackberry phones, demonstrating high turnover and demand.

No waste: Influenced by the principles in Charles Eisenstein’s “Sacred Economics,” the caravan fosters a spirit of giving and gratitude. Regular participants engage actively, exchanging items like vacuum cleaners for books, enhancing community bonds. Unclaimed goods find their way to weekly stalls at the BCC or are donated to local charities, ensuring nothing goes to waste.

🚇 Metro expansion ahead

Bengaluru’s metro network is set for a significant expansion enhancing city-wide connectivity.

What’s it about? The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has announced the inclusion of 16 interchange stations as part of its Phase 2 and Phase 3 projects.

  • These stations will be distributed across strategic locations in Bengaluru, including MG Road, KR Puram, and Jayadeva Junction, among others.
  • The aim is to facilitate seamless transitions between different metro lines, improving daily commute efficiency.

Main junction: The centrepiece of this expansion is the Jayadeva Junction station, poised to become the city’s largest multi-level interchange hub. This station will bridge the Yellow and Pink Lines, featuring innovative double-decker flyovers combining road and metro traffic. Expected to open by year-end, it will dramatically increase the station’s footfall.
