Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar intrigued Bengalureans with a conceptual video of a proposed observation deck in Bengaluru.

What’s it about? The presentation, in association with the World Design Organisation by Austrian firm COOP HIMMELB(L)AU, showcases a potential landmark tower, envisioned to be one of India’s tallest.

  • Shivakumar directed officials to assess the financial viability and locate 8-10 acres for this project.
  • The design takes cues from the Big Banyan tree and aims to provide a panoramic city view alongside recreational amenities.

Where? The ‘sky deck’ could come up in areas surrounding Kanteerava Stadium, Vidhana Soudha, and Race Course Road.

Reactions: Social media comments varied from excitement about the futuristic idea to concerns urging attention to pressing city issues like footpath conditions.


🛫 Bengaluru Airport tops in punctuality

Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport has been recognized as the world’s most punctual airport, according to a report by aviation analytics firm Cirium.

What’s it about? The airport has achieved the highest on-time performance among other global airports, showcasing operational efficiency.

  • An airport’s punctuality is evaluated based on the percentage of flights that departed within 15 minutes of their scheduled time​.
  • Bengaluru Airport not only topped this ranking but maintained this status for three consecutive months, demonstrating sustained operational excellence.

Hyderabad on the list: While Salt Lake City International Airport in Utah (US) took the second spot, Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport came third.


⚡ BESCOM promises steady power supply

The Bengaluru Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) pledged to provide an uninterrupted power supply to industries within its jurisdiction.

What’s it about? In a dialogue facilitated via a video conference, BESCOM, together with the Additional Chief Secretary of the Energy Department, Gaurav Gupta, engaged with representatives from various industrial associations.

  • The dialogue was initiated in response to concerns from the industrial sector, which has been experiencing unscheduled power cuts adversely affecting production, especially as they gear up to meet the demands of the festive season.
  • BESCOM highlighted that necessary arrangements have been made to ensure a reliable power supply in the industrial zones within its jurisdiction.

Who all attended? The meeting saw participation from a wide array of industrial associations from regions including Peenya, Bidadi, Hoskote, and Electronics City, among others.


🎶 Teen twins rock Bengaluru concert

15-year-old twins, Tara and Trisha Macaden, known as TnT, enraptured audiences with their diverse musical performance at the Sir Mutha Venkata Subbarao concert hall in Bengaluru last weekend.

The concert: Kicking off with the vibrant notes of ‘I Will Survive,’ the concert presented a blend of classics and contemporary hits. Their repertoire included a moving rendition of ‘Creep’ by Radiohead, songs by Michael Jackson, and two original compositions, ‘Inside Job’ and ‘Like It Never Happened,’ recently developed with US-based professional musicians.

  • Trained in Western vocals, the twins showcased their linguistic versatility with Tara singing in multiple languages including Spanish, Italian, and French, besides English.
  • Their songs, as described by Trisha, aim to deliver a unique message, tell a compelling story, and embody diverse musical styles.

More to come: The twins plan more live performances across the South from Deepavali to New Year’s Eve before resuming album recording in 2024. The live gigs, they note, have enriched their improvisational skills and fostered a deeper connection with audiences.
