🗑️ New quarries to dump waste
Civic bodies have identified four new quarries in the city to dump waste.
What’s it about? Garbage-filled trucks will soon travel to the north and eastern parts of the city to dump waste. Four new quarries, two in Byatarayanapura and the others in the Mahadevapura assembly constituency have been identified to dump the city’s garbage.
- The Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited (BSWML) will spend ₹120 crore to set up four landfills. 3,000 tonnes of the city’s waste end up in landfills, and the rest are sent for waste processing.
- The four places identified are Baiyappanahalli and Bagalur in Byatarayanapura and Mitaganahalli and Kannur in Mahadevapura. Three of these places are located where garbage is already being dumped daily.
What’s the history? In 2019, the BBMP brought in the state-owned Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Enterprise (KRIDL) to shift 60,000 tonnes of waste from Mavallipura to Mitaganahalli.
