💧 Water from air
Bengaluru adopts atmospheric water generation technology to combat water crisis.
What’s it about? Several institutions in Bengaluru, including government schools and hospitals, are utilising Atmospheric Water Generators (AWGs) to produce fresh drinking water from air moisture. The technology converts water vapour into clean, microbe-free water through condensation and filtration processes.
- KR Puram Government Hospital has been using two AWGs for four years, providing 50-100 litres of water daily for drinking and medical purposes.
- A new 250-litre capacity AWG has been installed at Government Higher Primary School in Rajarajeshwari Nagar, benefiting 300 children.
Limitation: While the technology is proving beneficial, especially in the rainy and winter seasons, yield decreases during summer due to lower humidity. The cost of water production is approximately ₹2 per litre, with minimal maintenance required.
