Intel plans to open a state-of-the-art R&D lab in Bengaluru.

What’s it about? Intel is set to inaugurate a new research and development lab in Bengaluru at a CtrlS Datacenters facility. The lab will focus on developing and testing new processor architectures and benefit from CtrlS’s partner ecosystem, including memory vendors and system Original Design Manufacturers. The partnership between Intel and CtrlS, spanning over 15 years, is expected to reach new heights with this expansion.

What’s it about? Processor Systems (India) Pvt Ltd (PSI), now ProcSys, is celebrating its golden jubilee, marking a significant milestone in Bengaluru’s tech history. Founded in 1973 by VK Ravindran, VK Harindran, and Vinay Deshpande, PSI was among the first computer companies in India, set up with the vision of creating microprocessor-based computers for every Indian household.

  • The company emerged during a critical time when IBM exited India. Initially focusing on defense, the company expanded its capabilities to education and business computing, overcoming significant industry challenges.

🚸 Unsafe footpaths for children

A study reveals Bengaluru’s footpaths are hazardous for child pedestrians.

What’s it about? A study by Action Aid Association titled ‘On foot: A study on safety and risk assessment of child pedestrians’ highlights the dangers children face on Bengaluru’s footpaths. Conducted along two routes from Vinobha Nagar to Karnataka Public School, the study identified multiple hazards, including construction debris, encroachments, litter, and absence of zebra crossings.

  • The study documented nine construction debris sites, 12 locations of vehicles parked on footpaths, and other significant obstructions.
  • Personal accounts from students and parents reveal the real risks children encounter daily, such as tripping hazards and the necessity to walk on the road due to obstructed footpaths.

Report submitted: Action Aid has submitted the report to the BBMP and plans to share it with other relevant authorities, urging the government to recognize and address pedestrian safety, particularly for children, as a critical issue in the city’s infrastructure planning.
