  • The inauguration was officiated by Union Minister for Telecommunications, Electronics, and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw.
  • The campus will be a hub for developing high-performance CPUs, gaming GPUs, and adaptive SoCs and FPGAs for embedded devices.

👂🏽 Rising ear infections

Ear infections are expected to rise in Bengaluru.

Who is she? As Bengaluru continues to experience frequent viral fever cases in the post-pandemic period, medical experts are warning of an expected increase in ear infections during the upcoming winter. Unlike previous patterns where viral illnesses like RSV, dengue, and malaria peaked in certain months, these are now prevalent throughout the year.

  • Doctors note a higher risk of ear infections in children following severe viral infections.
  • Around 15 cases of ear infections are being reported daily, with severe cases also on the rise.

Being vigilant: Ear infections often occur when throat pain or recurrent colds lead to infections in the middle ear, causing significant discomfort. Dr Rajath Athreya highlights that children with adenoid hypertrophy and tonsillitis are particularly susceptible. Medical professionals advise parents to be vigilant for symptoms like cold, cough, or ear pain, as early detection and treatment can significantly reduce recovery time.

🍲 New Krishna Bhavan no more

Bengaluru’s iconic New Krishna Bhavan will be shutting down.

What’s it about? New Krishna Bhavan (NKB), a beloved and historic restaurant in Bengaluru, has announced it will shut down, shocking its regular patrons. The restaurant, known for its vegetarian delicacies like green masala idlis and Mandya-style ragi dosas, will serve its last meals on December 12. Located opposite Sampige Theatre in Malleswaram, NKB has been a culinary landmark since 1954.

  • The closure is attributed to real estate reasons, with the property sold to Bhima Jewellers.
  • The restaurant is renowned for its traditional Udupi dishes, North Indian food, and eco-friendly zero-waste policy.

Old to new: This closure marks a significant cultural loss for Bengaluru, particularly felt by NKB’s long-term staff facing uncertain futures. The restaurant’s end reflects broader changes in urban dining landscapes, where old establishments make way for new developments.

🚆 Ambitious Circular Railway Project

Bengaluru is set to have India’s largest circular railway.

What’s it about? Bengaluru will soon boast the largest circular railway network in India, extending to 287 kilometres. Announced by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, this ambitious project aims to link all important towns around Bengaluru, ensuring “complete connectivity” through seven railway paths. The circular railway is designed with Bengaluru’s future transportation needs in mind, projected for the next 40-50 years.

  • The project includes a feasibility study and a Detailed Project Report, with construction possibly starting in the next five years.
  • The circular railway will operate as a hub-and-spoke model, integrating Bengaluru’s core with its suburbs and neighbouring towns.

Need of the hour: This project is seen as a key solution for Bengaluru’s growing transportation needs, combining with the under-construction Bengaluru Suburban Railway Project (BSRP) to form a comprehensive transit network. The railway will have at least two tracks and be fully electrified, facilitating efficient and sustainable travel within the city and its outskirts.
