📹 AI cameras catch violations

AI-powered cameras on the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway have recorded around 12,000 traffic violations within two weeks, with challans sent directly to vehicle owners’ mobiles.

Key points: Karnataka police emphasised the importance of adhering to traffic rules. A post on X highlighted the effectiveness of the cameras and the potential consequences of violations. A notable incident involved a KSRTC driver using a mobile phone while driving, captured by the cameras.

  • 60 cameras, including 48 ANPR cameras, were installed to detect overspeeding and other violations.
  • The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) reviewed safety features due to frequent accidents.

Safety measures: The AI cameras are part of efforts to improve road safety and reduce accidents on the expressway.


🗑️ Massive waste after RCB-CSK match

The high-stakes RCB vs CSK match on Saturday generated over six tonnes of waste outside M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

Cleanup efforts: Around 45 pourakarmikas and 25 volunteers from the Indian Ploggers Army worked early morning to clear the waste, using one compactor and four auto tippers. Waste included bottles, plastic covers, and food waste.

  • BBMP officials noted similar cleanup efforts after previous matches.
  • Despite fines, littering remains an issue during IPL matches.

Waste management: The Karnataka State Cricket Association stated that waste inside the stadium is handled by engaged vendors, while the BBMP manages the outside areas.


🛬 Air India Express emergency landing

An Air India Express flight to Kochi made an emergency landing at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport after its right engine caught fire shortly after take-off on May 18.

Incident details: The flight, carrying 179 passengers and six crew members, landed safely with no injuries reported. A full-scale emergency was declared, and the fire was extinguished upon landing. Ground services also reported flames, prompting an evacuation.

  • Alternative transportation was arranged for passengers.
  • A thorough investigation with the regulator will determine the cause.
