The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has announced plans for a 250-metre-long Skydeck in Bengaluru, with an estimated cost of ₹850 crore.

What’s it about? The ambitious project, set to be India’s tallest Skydeck, will cover 10 acres on the NGEF land near Baiyappanahalli. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah revealed that globally renowned architects have been invited to design the Skydeck to maximise tourist attraction in the city.

  • The government has allocated ₹3 crore for the project, with tenders already floated. The BBMP will implement the project without opting for a public-private partnership (PPP) model.
  • The site was chosen for its proximity to the Baiyappanahalli Metro Station, promoting the use of public transportation.

More beautification: To enhance the Skydeck’s appeal, plans include setting up a tree park within the NGEF land at an estimated cost of ₹30 crore. The area, already boasting 70 acres of greenery, will be further beautified with gardens and fountains.

⛐ AI solution to reduce road accidents

Bengaluru-based Netradyne is leveraging AI and data to enhance road safety through its Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and fleet management platforms.

Solving for driver negligence: With India witnessing over 4.6 lakh road accidents in 2022, resulting in 1.6 lakh fatalities, driver negligence remains a significant concern. Netradyne, founded in 2015, aims to address this issue by focusing on the safety of commercial vehicle fleets, with their systems reportedly reducing accident rates by 30% or more.

  • Netradyne’s state-of-the-art models are built on proprietary data, with decision accuracy ranging between 95 to 99%.
  • The company’s flagship Driver.i platform uses computer vision models to enhance driver safety and explores generative AI for creating reasoning models.

10 billion miles analysed: Netradyne’s intelligent fleet safety solutions provide insights into fleet safety, identifying safe and unsafe drivers. With over 10 billion driving miles analysed, the company claims a 96% reduction in distracted driving. Their tools enable fleet managers to coach drivers for improved safety, offering real-time feedback and predictive alerts to prevent accidents.

🏥 Fall prevention alert

Bengaluru-based AI startup Dozee has launched a new Fall Prevention Alert (FPA) feature, aiming to revolutionise patient safety in hospitals by reducing the risk of falls.

What’s it about? Unveiled at the 11th International Health Dialogue in Bengaluru, the FPA feature addresses a critical concern in healthcare, as falls are the most frequent adverse event in hospitals according to the WHO. With falls being a leading cause of injury and death, Dozee’s innovative solution aims to significantly improve patient safety by providing real-time monitoring and proactive alerts.

  • The FPA feature leverages advanced technology, including Dozee Sensor Sheet’s bed exit logging, to offer customisable alerts for high-risk patients.
  • Audio and visual cues instantly notify nurses when patients attempt to leave their beds, enabling timely assistance and reducing the risk of falls.

More solutions: Dozee’s comprehensive solution extends beyond fall prevention, allowing healthcare workers to remotely monitor vital parameters such as heart rate, respiration rate, blood pressure, and more.

🏞️ Cubbon Park battleground

Regular visitors and green activists in Bengaluru have been protesting against the State government’s decisions that threaten the greenery of Cubbon Park, a vital lung space in the city.

Why the protests? The latest protests were sparked by two contentious issues: the proposal to construct a High Court annexe inside the park and the decision to allow traffic inside the park on certain Saturdays. While the location for the annexe’s construction has shifted following protests, the traffic decision remains unchanged.

  • The issue of the High Court annexe dates back to 2019 when the then Chief Minister announced plans for a multi-storey building in the park, leading to widespread opposition from green activists and heritage conservationists.
  • The Parks and Preservations Act of 1975 prohibits fresh construction in the park, and activists argue that new constructions will increase pedestrian and vehicular movement, encroaching on the lung space.

The traffic problem: The issue of traffic in Cubbon Park has been a longstanding one, with the Horticulture Department initially proposing a total traffic ban in 2015 due to concerns about air and noise pollution. Although a complete ban was never imposed, vehicle movement is currently restricted on second and fourth Saturdays, Sundays, and general holidays.
