What’s it about? The first edition of the Deccan Alternative Music Conference, spearheaded by Neon Culture’s co-founders Prarthana Sen and Vishruti Bindal, is set to take place in Bengaluru. This event is designed to foster business-to-community conversations within the Indian independent music scene, targeting artists, students, and mid-level professionals aiming to professionalise their craft and navigate the industry’s business aspects.

  • DAMC will feature workshops, masterclasses, and networking opportunities led by industry professionals, focusing on artist management, music licensing, and more.
  • The conference will highlight eight selected music acts from the Deccan region, emphasising local languages and genres, from Tulu bands to Dakhni rap and Kannada rap.

🚕 Namma Yatri expands cab services

Namma Yatri plans to introduce zero-commission cab services in Bengaluru.

What’s it about? Namma Yatri, a Bengaluru-based mobility app, is set to launch its cab services in the city, adopting a zero-commission model similar to its auto-rickshaw services. This move aligns with the Karnataka government’s push for more equitable cab and auto-rickshaw aggregating services, challenging existing aggregators like Ola, Uber, and Rapido.

  • Namma Yatri aims to offer a range of transportation modes, including public transport and cabs, catering to customer preferences across various cities.
  • Emphasising service provider empowerment, Namma Yatri enables drivers to offer improved services without the burden of commissions, planning a nominal subscription fee model based on demand.

Win-win: As Namma Yatri prepares to match the Karnataka government’s recently revised fixed fare rates for cabs, its innovative approach could redefine the urban mobility landscape in Bengaluru and beyond, prioritising both driver welfare and customer satisfaction.

📹 Safe City Project hits snag

Technical challenges delay Bengaluru’s Safe City Project Phase II.

What’s it about? Bengaluru’s ambitious Safe City Project (SCP), a part of the Nirbhaya scheme aimed at enhancing public safety through AI camera surveillance, is facing delays in its second phase rollout due to technical and infrastructural challenges. Despite the successful completion of its first phase, the project’s progression to fully install 7,500 AI cameras has been hampered by connectivity issues and regulatory changes.

  • The transition from aerial to underground cable systems, mandated for safety reasons, has complicated the project’s network infrastructure, leading to potential delays.
  • Authorities are considering a “double circuit” model to ensure uninterrupted connectivity.

Urban safety: The SCP’s success in Bengaluru represents a critical step towards leveraging technology for urban safety, and the police force’s efforts to address current hurdles reflect their dedication to the project’s timely completion.

🏢 Real estate JDAs rise

Bengaluru’s real estate market sees a significant land value increase and a surge in Joint Development Agreements.

What’s it about? In the last three years, Bengaluru has experienced a sharp increase in land prices, with values soaring by 20% to 30%. A notable shift towards Joint Development Agreements (JDAs) has been observed.

  • Approximately 70% of real estate assets in Bengaluru are now developed through JDAs, offering a mutually beneficial model for landowners and developers.
  • The real estate sector’s adaptation to regulatory changes like RERA and GST has led to a preference for JDAs over outright sale transactions, with these agreements providing higher returns and allowing landowners to retain ownership.

Reason for increase: The rise in land prices is attributed to the influx of IT companies and startups, coupled with ongoing infrastructure development, creating a fertile ground for real estate growth.
