🚽 Public toilet crisis
A survey reveals poor conditions of BBMP public toilets.
What’s it about? A survey titled ‘The Big Bengaluru Toilet Survey’ conducted by Nguvu Change leader Archana KR has exposed alarming deficiencies in 48 public toilets managed by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). The findings highlight serious safety, hygiene, and inclusivity concerns.
- 75% of toilets lack secure locks, and 66% have inadequate lighting, compromising safety.
- A glaring disparity in user costs exists, with women charged more than men.
More issues: The survey also reveals a lack of basic amenities like dustbins for sanitary napkins and consistent access to running water. Furthermore, the toilets are largely inaccessible to differently-abled people. The cleaning staff, mostly migrants, suffer from poor working conditions and irregular wages.

Karnataka releases final voter list for 2024 elections.
