💻 Cyber fraud losses
Bengaluru residents lost over ₹1.71 crore daily due to cybercrimes in the past nine months, amounting to a total loss of more than ₹470 crore.
What’s it about? Data from the Bengaluru city police revealed that over 12,600 cybercrime cases have been reported since January. The most reported cases were online job fraud (3,346 cases) and debit/credit card fraud (3,102 cases). From the total lost amount, the police have recovered and returned over ₹27.6 crore to the complainants and have frozen over ₹201 crore.
- In job fraud cases, fraudsters offer remote working and online job opportunities, often convincing victims to pay a sum to release their “earnings”.
- Other significant frauds included loan app cases (277 cases), bitcoin-related fraud (195 cases), and sextortion (84 cases), resulting in a combined loss of over ₹24.62 crore.
Being vigilant: Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda emphasized the importance of public awareness. He urged the public to be vigilant, avoid clicking on unknown links, and not share personal details like OTPs and credit card information. Reporting cyber offences promptly can aid in freezing the account and recovering the lost amount.
✈️ Aircraft Recovery Training School
Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru has inaugurated South Asia’s first Aircraft Recovery Training School.
What’s it about? The Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) has taken the initiative to establish this state-of-the-art training school. It is equipped with the latest Disabled Aircraft Recovery Equipment (DARE) and aims to offer specialized training in aircraft recovery. This venture is a collaboration with KUNZ GmbH Aircraft Equipment, a German firm.
- The facility’s primary objective is to train aviation professionals to handle aircraft mishaps on runways, ensuring swift and safe recovery.
- The training will be provided under the globally recognized Trainair Plus programme by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
Theory and practice: Hari Marar, MD and CEO of BIAL, highlighted the significance of the training school in enhancing operational efficiency and ensuring passenger safety. The curriculum will merge theoretical sessions with practical exercises, equipping participants for real-world aircraft recovery situations.
🎸 Echoes Of Earth Music Festival
The sixth edition of the Echoes Of Earth music festival is set to take place in Bengaluru on December 2 and 3, promising a unique blend of art, music, culture, and conservation.
What’s it about? This year’s festival theme, ‘Ensemble of the Wild,’ aims to immerse attendees in the lush greenery of the Western Ghats, showcasing the region’s rich biodiversity. The festival will highlight the intricate balance of flora, fauna, and the overall ecology of the area through art, panel discussions, and workshops.

🏭 Waste processing plants to be shifted
Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar announced that all waste processing plants and landfills would be relocated outside Bengaluru city limits.
Health hazards: The decision to move waste processing units and landfills comes as a response to the increasing concerns over environmental degradation and health hazards faced by residents living near these facilities. Shivakumar emphasized the importance of decentralizing waste processing and ensuring that Bengaluru remains clean and green.
- The government is exploring scientific waste disposal methods, including the potential of waste-to-energy plants.
- The Minister stressed the need for public participation in waste management and urged citizens to segregate waste at the source.
