- At their first prosthetic limbs camp in Chennai, over 1,000 people participated. The limbs are made in collaboration with a Jaipur-based company.
- The Trust operates from a 32,000 sq ft facility dedicated to public service. About 1,000 people seek help here daily. Last year, it allocated ₹1.42 crore for public welfare activities.

🎷 Jazz it up
Hyatt Regency unveiled its J4Jazz Weekender Edition to return Chennaiites to the golden era.
What’s it about? The Hyatt Regency, in association with Social Spirit, unveiled its first-ever J4Jazz Weekender Edition. The participating bands include AV Trio, Joey Sharma Band, Matt Littlewood’s Quartet, and Tuesday Jazzers, to name a few.
- According to AV Trio, musicians in India are becoming more curious about jazz. It’s not easy to learn since one has to be equipped with Western musical education and musical grammar.
- Those who play jazz are influenced by artists and bands from the 1940s and 50s. More recently, the reach of jazz as a genre has increased thanks to better access and education.
Jazz in Chennai: Maarten Visser holds weekly workshops for up-and-coming jazz and contemporary artists. Even though jazz will have difficulty competing with other well-known genres, it has come a long way.

A new report outlined proposals to desilt small tanks and reservoirs ahead of the monsoon.
What’s it about? In a recent report, the Tamil Nadu PWD Senior Engineers Association (TANSEA) asked the state government to increase water storage by desilting small tanks and reservoirs. It recommended desilting to help increase water storage in and around Chennai.
- The proposals include desilting 507 tanks out of 1,550 in Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, and Kancheepuram. This will help store 3.75 tmcft of water, which can be diverted to reservoirs through pipelines.
- Desilting the Chembarambakkam, Poondi, and Puzhal reservoirs to deepen them could help store 1 tmcft of water each. The report also recommends dredging the Buckingham Canal by a metre and removing encroachments along its banks.
What’s the government doing? Thirteen check dams have been built along the Kosasthalaiyar. The Water Resources Department began desilting the Poondi reservoir in 2021. Technical issues temporarily halted the project.

- Health experts warn there could be a further spike in the cases of fever in November and December with new viral infections.
