🖌️ Anime adventures
10-year-old artist Visalakshi Sathappan’s exhibition showcases her vision for anime characters.
What’s it about? For her after-school programme, Visalakshi Sathappan was asked to dress up as her future self, and she decided to be a Hollywood director. Her vision was to create anime characters and movies. Her works will be displayed at the “Celestial Dreams: An Anime Journey” exhibition at the DakshinaChitra Museum.
- She’s a self-taught artist who expressed interest from a young age. Thanks to YouTube tutorials, she learnt about different art forms and techniques.
- Her anime world is set in Japan, which she admires for its beauty, cuisine, and culture. The tale has heroes and villains, with characters named Emily, Miko, and Aiko.
Boundless creativity: Her passion for storytelling and art came together as she created her unique anime universe to invite people into a fantastical world.
🔒 Enhancing cybersecurity
IIT Madras and IDBI Bank have teamed up for a new initiative to beef up cybersecurity across several sectors.
What’s it about? IIT Madras and IDBI Bank have partnered for a cybersecurity lab to develop and implement security measures across sectors like healthcare, fintech, and aerospace.
- The ‘IDBI-IITM Secure Systems Lab’ (I2SSL) will focus on developing market-ready solutions in cybersecurity and the productisation and commercialisation of research work.
- The lab will evaluate and assess cybersecurity in systems deployed in industries like banking, automotive, and telecommunications. The lab will figure out vulnerabilities and provide guidelines.
Developing systems: The lab will create ingenious system designs for hardware firewalls, mobile banking, and point-of-sales devices. There will also be an online forum for AI-based malware analysis.
🚇 New metro line decision
The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) will decide the route and location for the metro extension from Koyambedu to Avadi.
What’s it about? The CMRL has awarded the contract to Rites Limited to prepare a detailed project report for the extension from Koyambedu to Avadi. The route and stations for this line are expected to be decided by the end of this year.
- The corridor is expected to be 16 km with 15 elevated stations via Padi Pudhu Nagar, Ambattur, and Thirumullaivoyal.
- The survey will involve drilling over 30 boreholes to investigate the soil and conduct topographical surveys along the entire stretch.
Why this line? The extension is being done considering increased urbanisation along this route with IT parks, industries, and increased populated areas.
🚇 Land acquired for metro
Phase 2 of the metro has seen the acquisition of 99% of the required land.
What’s it about? As the various corridors of metro phase 2 take shape, the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has acquired 99% of the required land. The only exception is a few stretches, including on Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR).
- Of the 117.02 hectares needed, 112.13 have been acquired. The remaining includes 3.15 hectares on corridor 5 from Madhavaram Milk Colony to Sholinganallur.
- The largest acquisition was from Madhavaram Milk Colony to Sholinganallur, with 67.84 hectares. The entirety of phase 2 will be spread over 116.1 km across three corridors.
What’s happening on OMR? On OMR, the metro needs 25mx35m space for every entry and exit point of stations. They’ve acquired government land for parking and property development. Land acquisition is still ongoing for 20 km on OMR since the corridor’s design was changed.
