🍆 Vegetable consumption down

A recent survey has highlighted that rising vegetable prices in Bengaluru are forcing households to cut back on their consumption.

What’s it about? The survey found that approximately 16% of respondents have already started reducing their intake of essential vegetables such as potatoes, tomatoes, and onions. Many respondents indicated that they might further reduce their purchases if vegetable prices exceed ₹60 per kilogram.

  • The past month has seen prices of some vegetables soar to as high as ₹200 per kg.
  • While some households can avoid buying certain vegetables, essentials like onions and tomatoes are difficult to exclude from daily meals.

Intervention sought: There is a need for proactive measures from the local administration to prevent retailers from taking undue advantage of price surges, especially during peak seasons like summer and monsoon.

What’s it about? During a meeting with representatives from Byju’s parent company Think and Learn Pvt Ltd, Lad emphasised the importance of settling at least 50% of the dues owed to former employees “at the earliest”.

  • The company informed the Karnataka government that its funds are currently held in an escrow account with the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT).
