The Bengaluru Traffic Police have announced traffic diversions and route changes for June 4 due to the Lok Sabha poll result counting.

What’s it about? Several restrictions will be in place due to the poll counting. At Mount Carmel College on Palace Road, traffic will restricted from Old High Ground Junction and the Vasanthnagar underbridge towards the college. Vehicles heading from Palace Cross towards Mount Carmel College, Kalpana Junction, and Chandrika Junction will have to take an alternative route via Chakravarti Layout, Palace Road, M V Jayaram Road, and Old Udaya TV Junction towards Cantonment Railway Station Road.

  • The restrictions in these places are due to their proximity to counting centres and to restrict any untoward incidents.

Parking restrictions:  Parking will also be not allowed on RRMR Road, Vittal Mallya Road, NR Road, KB Road, KG Road, Nrupatunga Road, Queen’s Road, Central Street Road, and MG Road, with parking instead allowed at St. Joseph’s College Grounds and the Kanteerava Stadium parking lot.

🌧️ Rain alert

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Bengaluru, forecasting rain and thundershowers over the next five days.

What’s it about? The forecast indicates cloudy skies with spells of rain from June 2 to June 4, and continued rainfall on June 5 and 6. It’s likely to cause significant waterlogging and traffic disruptions.

  • In addition to Bengaluru, several parts of Kerala, including Kozhikode, are expected to experience rain and thundershowers from June 2 to June 8.
  • Light to moderate rain is also anticipated in Chennai where the maximum temperature is predicted to be around 34 to 35 degrees Celsius.

Stay alert:  The persistent rains are likely to impact daily activities and authorities are advising people to stay updated on weather advisories and plan their commutes accordingly to avoid waterlogged areas and traffic snarls.

🐍 Snakes on the rise

The BBMP wildlife rescue team in Bengaluru is struggling to keep up with the surge in snake sightings across the city.

What’s it about? Bengaluru is grappling with an increase in snake sightings, particularly in newly incorporated villages within the Bommanahalli, Byatarayanapura, Dasarahalli, Mahadevapura, and Rajarajeshwarinagara zones, as reported by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) wildlife rescue team.

  • With the snake breeding season in full swing, the team has received over 100 calls in the past week, averaging 30 calls per day, primarily from Yelahanka and Bommanahalli areas.
  • Residents are experiencing delays in rescue operations, often waiting hours for assistance despite promptly reporting sightings.

Most-common sightings: Most commonly spotted snakes include cobras, Russell’s vipers, and water snakes, with a significant presence of baby snakes seeking refuge from heat and moisture.
