🛺 Namma Yatri raises pre-Series A

Moving Tech Innovations Ltd, the company behind community-led mobility apps Namma Yatri and Yatri Sathi, has successfully raised $11 million (approximately ₹92 crore) in a pre-Series A funding round.

What’s it about? The investment was led by Blume Ventures and Antler, with participation from Google and several other investors. Moving Tech plans to use the funds to enhance technology, R&D, and product innovation.

  • The focus will be on empowering drivers, integrating public transport, and improving customer experience.
  • The company aims to increase driver earnings and provide reliable, affordable, seamless, and sustainable mobility solutions through direct-to-driver and multimodal transportation models.

Background: Namma Yatri was launched in November 2022 by Juspay, in collaboration with Nandan Nilekani’s BECKN Foundation and Bengaluru’s Auto Rickshaw Drivers’ Union (ARDU), as an alternative to Ola and Uber.


🛣️ Lane indiscipline fines

In a bid to improve road safety and reduce accidents on Bengaluru’s airport road, the traffic police have announced stringent fines for those who violate lane discipline.

What’s it about? This initiative comes in response to multiple accidents reported due to high vehicle speeds on this stretch. Drivers on Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) Road (B.B. Road – NH-44) will now have to adhere to their designated lanes.

  • Additionally, eight AI-powered speed trap cameras have been installed on the International Airport Road.
  • According to Bengaluru police, nine per cent of accidents in Bengaluru occur on the airport road.

Public appeal: The Bengaluru police emphasised the importance of these measures to enhance safety on the airport road, urging drivers to comply with the speed and lane regulations to avoid penalties and contribute to safer driving conditions.


🚇 Bengaluru delivers Mumbai’s 55th driverless metro

Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth flagged off a new driverless MRS-1 Metro trainset at BEML’s Bengaluru plant, marking a significant milestone for BEML’s rail business division.

What’s it about? The new driverless trainset is the 55th to be supplied to the Mumbai Metro Rail Metropolitan Authority. It will be operated on Line 2 and Line 7 of the Mumbai Metro.

  • BEML had secured the order for the design, manufacture, supply, testing, commissioning, and training of 96 trainsets (6-car trainsets) amid stiff global competition.
  • The total value of this order is approximately ₹4,319 crore.

BEML praised: Mr Seth praised BEML’s contribution to the ‘Make in India’ initiative, noting that the driverless metro trainset symbolises the nation’s growing capabilities in advanced transportation solutions.
