Good morning, Bengaluru!

🌧️ Today’s weather: High: 29 ℃ | Low: 21 ℃ | Generally cloudy sky with light rain.

🧐 Did you know? The first Namma Metro route to become operational was from Byappanhalli to MG Road.

💰 Rich U-35

Bengaluru has emerged as the city with the highest number of rich Indians under 35, surpassing Mumbai, according to the 2024 Hurun India Under 35s list.

What’s it about? The list, curated by the Hurun Research Institute, includes 150 entrepreneurs under 35 who have built businesses with valuations of at least USD 50 million (for first-generation entrepreneurs) or USD 100 million (for next-generation entrepreneurs).

  • The city boasts 29 entrepreneurs on the list, compared to Mumbai’s 26, showcasing its dominance in fostering young business leaders.
  • Notable names from Bengaluru include Sushant Goel and Ayush Bathwal of Third Wave Coffee, Shashank Kumar of Razorpay, and Meesho founders Vidit Aatrey and Sanjeev Barnwal.

Other notables: Bengaluru’s representation also includes prominent individuals like Roman Saini (Unacademy), Tarun Mehta (Ather Energy), and Mohit Kumar (Ultrahuman), among others. The complete list highlights individuals from a wide range of industries including financial services, software, and healthcare.

💦 Mahadevapura short on water

Residents of the Mahadevapura area, particularly in the Kamadhenu Layout, have been struggling with severe water shortages for over 18 months, relying heavily on private water tankers.

What’s it about? With the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) unable to provide a consistent supply, families are forced to spend between ₹10,000 and ₹25,000 monthly on water. Some larger households are spending as much as ₹35,000 per month.

  • Due to high demand, tankers charge between ₹1,500 and ₹4,000 for 5,000 litres of water, with deliveries often happening late at night.
  • The situation has created significant financial strain, especially for families with infants, elderly members, or those living on pensions.

BWSSB’s response: BWSSB chairman Ram Prasath Manohar has attributed the delay in action to the Cauvery Stage 5 project, which is expected to address the water shortage in the area. He assured residents that water from the project would reach Mahadevapura in a few weeks, and measures are being taken to curb the tanker monopoly.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah launched the Knowledge, Wellbeing, and Innovation (KWIN) City near Bengaluru, formerly known as the Knowledge, Health, Innovation, and Research (KHIR) City.

What’s it about? Located around 60 kilometres from Bengaluru, KWIN City will cover 2,000 acres on the Satellite Town Ring Road (STRR). It aims to create a parallel city to Bengaluru, offering growth in sectors such as education, startups, research, and global healthcare.

  • The project, led by the Department of Commerce and Industries, seeks to attract top educational institutions, research centres, and companies, providing local employment.
  • KWIN City’s strategic location, just an hour from Kempegowda International Airport, is expected to draw investors and fuel a real-estate boom around Doddaballapur.

Patil’s predictions: Minister MB Patil has expressed confidence in the project’s economic significance, predicting increased investment and job creation. He expects the city to attract ₹40,000 crore in investments across its key sectors and generate around 80,000 jobs, boosting the state’s GDP.

🌧️ Typical late monsoon

What’s it about? The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted moderate rainfall throughout the week. Evening temperatures will dip to 22°C, providing some relief from the day’s humidity, which is expected to average 76%.

  • Winds will be gentle at 15 kmph, and residents are advised to carry rain gear due to intermittent showers.
  • The air quality remains healthy with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 23.

Elsewhere: Meanwhile, coastal Karnataka faces “yellow” weather alerts, predicting heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightning. North Interior Karnataka (NIK) will also see scattered heavy rainfall.
