The newly inaugurated double-decker flyover at Silk Board Junction has significantly alleviated traffic congestion by 50%, according to data from the Bengaluru Traffic Police.

What’s it about? Constructed at a cost of ₹449 crore, the 5.12 km flyover, stretching from Ragigudda to Central Silk Board, was designed to ensure signal-free travel to HSR Layout and Hosur Road, cutting travel time by 30%.

  • Multiple loops and ramps help streamline the movement of vehicles, benefiting commuters heading towards K R Puram and Hosur Road.
  • The average traffic queue length has decreased from 19 km to 10 km on the route since the inauguration.

Congestion decreases: Prior to the opening (July 12-17), there were 24 daily congestion alerts at Silk Board Junction. This number dropped to 15 within a month of the flyover becoming operational (September 5-10).

🐆 Leopard captured

A five-year-old leopard that had been causing panic in Electronic City was captured last night in a cage placed near a deserted helipad.

What’s it about? The leopard’s presence sparked a widespread search operation involving the installation of cameras and the use of thermal drones to track its movements. The forest department now plans to shift the animal to the Bannerghatta Biological Park.

  • The leopard was caught over a week after a video emerged showing it crossing a flyover road near a toll plaza around 3 am.
  • The authorities had placed the area on high alert following the sighting, and it is believed that this leopard may be the same one spotted earlier in the nearby Jigani area.

Wanderer: Since Jigani is located near the Bannerghatta forest, it is believed that there could have been a possibility that the leopard wandered out from the forest.

💦 HBR’s water crisis

Residents of Bengaluru’s HBR Layout have faced a health crisis for the past five years due to sewage contamination in the Cauvery water supply.

What’s it about? Muddy, black, foul-smelling, and contaminated water has caused health issues like diarrhoea and chronic cough, particularly affecting residents of 6th Main, 9th Cross, and 3rd Block.

  • Despite repeated complaints to the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB), the problem remains unresolved.
  • While pipelines in the area were replaced after much delay, the contamination source is still unidentified.

Unscientific approach: The prolonged search for the sewage leak has also caused road damage, with muddy streets posing risks to pedestrians, especially senior citizens. BWSSB’s handling of the situation has also drawn criticism with locals accusing the board of unprofessionalism and unscientific approaches.

🏗️ Puravankara’s land deal

Puravankara Limited purchased a 1.25-lakh square feet land parcel in Yelahanka for ₹134.71 crore from CV Projects Private Limited.

What’s it about? The deal was registered on September 18. Puravankara now aims to raise ₹1,000 crore through qualified institutional placements and reported flat sales bookings of ₹1,128 crore for April-June 2024.

  • Purvankara’s collections have risen 39% year-on-year to ₹965 crore.
  • The group has also added 3.25 million sq ft to its portfolio, including projects in Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Goa.

Why Yelahanka? North Bengaluru is becoming a real estate hotspot due to major infrastructure developments like the Kempegowda International Airport expansion, metro network improvements, and the proposed Peripheral Ring Road.
