🚇 Bamboo-based station

The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) is constructing the Bamboo Bazaar Metro Station, which will have unique bamboo interiors, a first for Indian Metro stations.

What’s it about? The eco-friendly initiative, estimated to cost between ₹5-6 crore, will be funded by BMRCL’s corporate social responsibility funds. The station will use bamboo decor extensively, including native and Indian bamboo for greening medians beneath the metro rails and stations.

  • Bambusa tulda wood from Tripura will be used for station landscapes, open areas, and crafts.
  • A 5 km stretch of Bannerghatta Road will also be developed with Bambusa multiplex.

Similar projects: Similar bamboo-based projects are being planned for a metro station in Mumbai and have been used in the interiors of Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru, and the new Parliament residence in New Delhi.
