‘Battlegrounds Mobile India’ (formerly PUBG) has incorporated traffic safety messages as part of a unique public awareness campaign in Bengaluru.

What’s it about? This initiative, designed to target young players aged 16-25, is the result of a collaboration between the local Bengaluru traffic police, game developers, and media agency Schbang.

  • The campaign aims to promote road safety, particularly focusing on helmet use, speeding, and responsible driving among the younger demographic.
  • The in-game safety messages are written in a casual, relatable tone using “Bengaluru English” to ensure that they resonate with the audience.

‘Bengaluru English’ used: Phrases like “Macha, put off helmet da. Drive safe, drive responsibly” are being used to make the messages more approachable. Rensilla Fernandes, who leads the campaign, explained that the decision to use the local dialect was intentional to create a more personal connection between the game and its players.

🏠 Delayed possession compensation

A Bengaluru homebuyer received ₹7.12 lakh in compensation for a delayed flat possession in a recent case under the Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA).

What’s it about? The homebuyer purchased a flat in 2018 from Shriram Properties’ project “Shriram Blue,” with a delivery date of March 2022 and a six-month grace period until September 2022. Despite paying all instalments on time, the flat was delayed by over a year, being delivered in September 2023 without the buyer’s consent for an extension.

  • Although the builder cited challenges like hard rock foundations and COVID-19 disruptions, the homebuyer rejected the builder’s initial offer of ₹1.75 lakh as compensation and sought legal recourse.
  • The Karnataka RERA ruled in favour of the homebuyer, emphasising the legal enforceability of the original sale agreement, even after possession.

Obligations violated: RERA found that the builder had violated contractual obligations by not delivering the flat on time and failing to obtain the buyer’s consent for deadline extensions. RERA ordered the builder to compensate the buyer with ₹7.12 lakh for the delay period, calculated from the original deadline until possession.

🏠 Foxconn leasing apartments

Major Apple manufacturing partner Foxconn is set to lease 900 apartments from real estate giant BCD Group in Hoskote for a three-year term.

What’s it about? The apartments will house Foxconn’s female engineering, technical, and support staff, and factory workers employed at its upcoming iPhone factory, located 25 minutes from the site.

  • The township spans 8 acres with 9 towers and can accommodate 8,500 women.
  • Foxconn’s expansion follows its acquisition of 300 acres in Devanahalli and its ongoing iPhone production in Sriperumbudur.

Housing accommodations: BCD Emprasa offers 1RK and 2RK units ranging from 700-800 square feet, each designed to house 4-6 people. The project is part of a larger 80-acre township development, with phase 2 set to introduce Ekam Homes, featuring plotted and villa developments across 15 acres.

📿 Gold chain immersed

A Bengaluru couple, Ramaiah and Umadevi, accidentally immersed a Ganesh idol adorned with a gold chain worth ₹4 lakh in a mobile immersion tank during Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.

What’s it about?  The couple, both teachers from Govindarajanagar, had placed a 60-gram gold chain on the idol as part of the festival decorations at their home. After completing the rituals, they handed over the idol for immersion in a mobile tank but forgot to remove the valuable ornament.

  • The couple contacted Bengaluru’s Magadi police station and alerted the local MLA for assistance.
  • The authorities launched a 10-hour search operation, with the contractor responsible for the mobile tank deploying a group of workers to sift through the mud and clay.

Search operation: 10,000 litres of water were pumped from the tank to clear the way for the search in a bid to find the ornament. More than ten people were involved in the operation, who eventually found the gold chain and returned it to the couple.
