What’s it about? The survey found that approximately 16% of respondents have already started reducing their intake of essential vegetables such as potatoes, tomatoes, and onions. Many respondents indicated that they might further reduce their purchases if vegetable prices exceed ₹60 per kilogram.
- The past month has seen prices of some vegetables soar to as high as ₹200 per kg.
- While some households can avoid buying certain vegetables, essentials like onions and tomatoes are difficult to exclude from daily meals.
Intervention sought: There is a need for proactive measures from the local administration to prevent retailers from taking undue advantage of price surges, especially during peak seasons like summer and monsoon.
📡 Karandlaje demands Doppler
Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje has urged the Ministry of Science and Technology to install a Doppler Weather Radar in Bengaluru to enhance weather forecasting capabilities.

- Karandlaje highlighted the increase in unexpected heavy rainfall leading to flash floods in Bengaluru, stressing the need for advanced forecasting systems.

⚙️ Emphasis on nanotech
Minister of Science and Technology NS Boseraju has announced significant initiatives to advance nanotechnology research in Karnataka.
What’s it about? At the “Bengaluru India Nano 2024” curtain raiser press meet, Minister NS Boseraju emphasised Karnataka’s commitment to becoming a leader in nanotechnology research.
- The Karnataka State Research Foundation (KSRF) and the Karnataka R&D Innovation Platform (e-KRDIP) were revealed to be pivotal in this initiative.
- The 13th edition of Bengaluru India Nano, scheduled for August 1-3, will focus on “Nanotechnology for Sustainable Climate, Energy, and Healthcare.”
Pre-conference tutorials: Bengaluru India Nano 2024 will offer pre-conference tutorials on key topics like Nano Fabrication, Nano Characterisation, and Nano Biology, providing in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience.
📖 Byju’s urged to pay
Karnataka Labour Minister Santosh Lad has urged Byju’s to resolve outstanding salary dues owed to its former employees promptly.
What’s it about? During a meeting with representatives from Byju’s parent company Think and Learn Pvt Ltd, Lad emphasised the importance of settling at least 50% of the dues owed to former employees “at the earliest”.
- The company informed the Karnataka government that its funds are currently held in an escrow account with the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT).
- The NCLT had previously barred Byju’s from using proceeds from its second rights issue, mandating that the funds be parked in a separate account until the case is resolved.
~5cr due: Karnataka’s labour department had received numerous complaints from about 160-200 former employees, alleging that Byju’s owed them nearly ₹4.5 crore in dues.
