Good morning, Bengaluru!

⛈️ Today’s weather: Thundershowers and light winds are in store.

🧐 Did you know? The Innovative Film City, located on the Bengaluru-Mysuru expressway, is a theme park with a Ripley’s Believe It or Not museum, a Cartoon City section, and Talkies.

🏥 Health check-up at home

A Rheumatologist is offering door-to-door medical tests through high-end diagnostic technology.

Story so far: The proliferation of door-to-door services in Bengaluru is a boon to the traffic-bound city’s primary healthcare infrastructure. Dr Santosh Saklecha, a Rheumatologist and Internal Medicine Specialist noticed a need for at-home diagnostic tests and decided to offer ECG, X-ray, PFT, EEG, ENMG, and NST tests.

  • Bengalureans can call for Ghar pe Diagnostics appointment and the diagnostic test services will be available in an hour. They use premium technology like digital radiography.
  • The diagnostic reports can be accessed within 10-15 minutes through a link. They also offer Fetal Non-Stress Tests (NST).

Why it matters? The at-home diagnostic test services began operations in 2022 and have helped over 4,000 patients. For some, it’s a more cost-effective alternative. It’s perhaps the city’s senior citizens who have the most to gain from door-to-door medical tests. Apart from other benefits, they can enjoy a more comfortable waiting time.

☔ Waterleak in Whitefield metro station

A short spell of rain led to leaks and puddles in the Kadugodi metro station.

Story so far: Twenty minutes of rain on Sunday exposed the structural deficiencies in the Whitefield (Kadugodi) metro terminal station. Rainfall entered the station through leaking ceilings and formed puddles on the floor.

  • On Twitter, the Whitefield Rising account shared visuals of passengers walking under the leaky roofs and wading through stagnant waters.
  • Many passengers have complained about the metro station’s safety. Slipping and falling while trying to catch a train is a peril even without puddles.

Any action yet? Metro station staff had gotten cracking soon after the water started to collect. But mopping wasn’t enough to weather the deficiencies of the building. However, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has assured the Mahadevapura task force that the contractors will undertake core-cutting for cable routing through the roof channels to take care of the issue.

🎞️ Possibilities of a Film City

Kantara actor and director requested a Film City for Bengaluru.

Story so far: Speaking as a panellist at the 9th Seva Sushasan Garib Kalyan National Conclave hosted by the Ministry of Broadcasting and Information, actor and filmmaker Rishab Shetty appealed for a Film City in Bengaluru. The conclave centred around the theme of Yuva Shakti, the transformative power of the youth.

  • Shetty highlighted the growing popularity of the Kannada Film Industry and how it’s also receiving support from the government.
  • Kantara’s Box Office success was a victory for people outside the industry too. It prompted the state government to offer Bhoota Kola performers over 60 years a monthly allowance.

Tell me more? Other notable individuals who formed the panel were Oyo Rooms’ CEO Ritesh Agarwal, Gharana musician Amaan Ali Bangash, former hockey player and national captain Viren Rasquinha, CAXpert co-founder Yashodhara Bajoria, and boxer Akhil Kumar.

🌧️ Annual rainfall surges

Annual rainfall in Bengaluru during, before, and after monsoons have surged.

Story so far: The city is witnessing high levels of annual rainfall. In 2022, Bengaluru recorded an 89% rise in its yearly rainfall, per the India Meteorological Department. Climbing temperatures and rainfall levels are likely a symptom of climate change, which alters weather patterns.

  • In 2018, Bengaluru received 1,033.2 mm of rainfall which rose to 1,956.7 mm by 2022.
  • Monsoon rains rose by 126.9% in June, 128.18% in July, and 169.23% in August. Rains before and after monsoons have increased too.

Other causes? While climate change is one of the major causes for the changing weather patterns in Bengaluru, other factors are at play too. La Nina is one of them. It’s had a global effect on weather patterns.
