Chief Minister Siddaramaiah inaugurated the construction of an international cricket stadium in Tumakuru on Monday.

What’s it about? The stadium will span 50 acres, with land allocated by the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) to the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA). Situated near Sorekunte, the state-of-the-art facility is expected to cost ₹150 crore and will be completed within two years.

  • Currently, Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium is the only venue in the state hosting international cricket matches, despite other proposed stadium projects.
  • In addition to Tumakuru, another international cricket stadium has been proposed near Mysuru.

Expanding IPL: The expansion aligns with the BCCI’s vision of spreading IPL matches beyond Bengaluru to tier-2 cities, such as Mysuru, Hubballi-Dharwad, and Belagavi. BCCI President Roger Binny stated that the move will diversify venues and address the seating capacity limitations of Chinnaswamy Stadium compared to other international venues.

🛣️ Eastern Connectivity Tunnel

Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) is set to benefit from a transformative Eastern Connectivity Tunnel aimed at reducing travel times and alleviating traffic congestion.

What’s it about? This project, part of Bangalore International Airport Limited’s (BIAL) ₹16,500 crore expansion plan, will connect key areas like Whitefield, Sarjapur, and Mahadevapura directly to the airport, cutting travel times by up to 30 minutes.

  • The tunnel will bypass the heavily congested Hebbal flyover, diverting approximately 30% of airport-bound traffic and significantly easing city-wide congestion.
  • Construction is expected to begin this year, with a targeted completion in three years.

Other developments: This development is part of KIA’s broader infrastructure upgrades, which include two new metro stations, taxiway improvements, and the construction of Terminal 3 to accommodate the increasing passenger demand.

Organisers anticipate attendance from 6,000 to 8,000 delegates, including renowned orthopaedic professionals from India and abroad.

  • Themed “Enhancing Skills, Optimising Care,” this prestigious event marks its return to Bengaluru after 16 years, with the last edition in the city held in 2008.
  • The main conference, set for December 5 to 7 at Bengaluru Palace, will include discussions led by global experts on cutting-edge orthopaedic technologies.
