Bengaluru could soon introduce electric flying taxis to drastically reduce travel time to Kempegowda International Airport (KIA), potentially cutting commutes from 1.5 hours to just 5 minutes.

What’s it about? A collaboration between Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) and Sarla Aviation aims to develop advanced air mobility solutions using seven-seater eVTOL (electric vertical take-off and landing) aircraft.

  • These eco-friendly, quieter flying taxis promise faster commutes and reduced carbon emissions.
  • While the project remains in its early stages, with prototypes and regulatory approvals pending, it is expected to take two to three years to launch.

Other options: In the interim, other commute options, such as a railway line expansion from Yelahanka to the Airport have also been announced.

💦 Manyata Tech Park flooded

Heavy rains on Tuesday flooded the Manyata Tech Park causing significant disruptions for employees.

What’s it about? The 300-acre tech park, located along Outer Ring Road (ORR), saw its roads submerged under water as heavy rain began early in the morning, continuing for hours. Visuals of the flooding were shared warning others of worsening traffic and waterlogging in and around the tech park.

  • With the Hebbal flyover, a major route to and from Manyata, already gridlocked, weather bloggers advised tech workers to leave their offices early to avoid being stranded during evening peak hours.
  • Employees expressed frustration over the city’s recurring infrastructure issues during the monsoon, with many pointing out the lack of proper drainage systems in the tech park and across Bengaluru.

No relief in sight: According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Bengaluru is expected to face more rain over the next few days. The IMD’s 7-day forecast predicts moderate to heavy rainfall across the city from October 14 to 17.

🏏 First test doubtful

The India vs New Zealand 1st Test in Bengaluru, scheduled from October 16 to 20, faces major disruption due to a bleak weather forecast predicting heavy rain throughout the five days.

What’s it about? India’s practice session was already cancelled due to rain, and predictions show a 25% to 67% chance of rain daily. Despite the M Chinnaswamy Stadium’s excellent drainage system, it seems unlikely that the match will be completed, with the possibility of it being abandoned.

  • India, currently leading the ICC World Test Championship, aims to secure more points, while New Zealand seeks redemption after a loss to Sri Lanka.
  • Head coach Gautam Gambhir has highlighted India’s strong squad depth and adaptability, noting that team selection would depend on pitch and weather conditions.

Full game difficult: While October 19 shows the lowest chance of rain (25%), getting a full match or a decisive result looks challenging on the pitch. Still, Gambhir has expressed confidence in India’s player options, but with continuous rain, the outcome of the match remains uncertain.

🧑🏽‍💻 Cybersecurity jobs

Bengaluru tops the list for cybersecurity job opportunities, accounting for nearly 10% of all job listings in this sector.

What’s it about? The city’s dominance is attributed to its thriving tech ecosystem, which includes major IT firms, startups, and multinational corporations, all of which are increasing their emphasis on securing digital infrastructure and safeguarding data.

  • Cybersecurity job postings in India surged by 14% between September 2023 and September 2024.
  • Delhi-NCR ranked second with 4% of cybersecurity job postings.

Booming sector: Remote jobs made up 2.2% of the postings, while Hyderabad and Mumbai each accounted for 2% of the total listings. As businesses continue to expand their digital operations, the demand for cybersecurity professionals is expected to grow.
