✈️ Rameshwaram Cafe and CTR at airport

The Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) is set to welcome two iconic dosa joints, Rameshwaram Cafe and Central Tiffin Room (CTR).

What’s it about?  Rameshwaram Cafe will open in Terminal-1, serving domestic passengers, while CTR will debut in Terminal-2, catering to both international and some domestic travellers.

  • CTR’s expansion marks its first outlet beyond its Malleshwaram location.
  • Meanwhile, Rameshwaram Cafe already has several outlets in the city and Hyderabad.

‘Pushing culture’: This move is part of Bangalore International Airport Limited’s (BIAL) effort to showcase Bengaluru’s culture. They aim to offer a taste of the city to travellers from across the globe.


🛣️ ORR caves

A portion of the Outer Ring Road near Kartik Nagar in Mahadevapura caved in following heavy rain causing significant traffic disruption.

What’s it about?  The road, which serves as a critical route for several multinational companies, drew attention to the city’s infrastructure issues with the traffic police swiftly diverting traffic to the main road to manage congestion during peak hours.

  • The incident has intensified criticism over the city’s road conditions, with users highlighting the need for better engineering solutions.
  • In response, the Congress-led government emphasised its commitment to improving Bengaluru’s roads, aiming to make the city pothole-free.

ORRCA unheard: The Outer Ring Road Companies Association (ORRCA), which represents firms in the area, has repeatedly called for urgent repairs to the 17 km stretch of the ORR, which is prone to frequent waterlogging and potholes.


🌧️ Showers predicted

Bengaluru and surrounding areas in South Interior Karnataka (SIK) are expected to receive light to moderate showers until October 8, with some areas potentially experiencing heavy rainfall, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

What’s it about? The showers come after a prolonged dry spell, with the city experiencing rain on Wednesday and Thursday. SIK had a 62% rainfall deficit in September, receiving only 52 mm compared to the normal 136 mm.

  • North Interior Karnataka also saw a 27% shortfall, while Coastal Karnataka received 40% excess rainfall.
  • During the recently concluded South West monsoon season, Karnataka overall received 15% excess rainfall, amounting to 978 mm against a normal of 852 mm.

Rainfall report: South Interior Karnataka recorded 11% excess rainfall, North Interior Karnataka saw 12% excess, Malnad 13%, and Coastal Karnataka had 20% excess rainfall.


✈️ Asia’s biggest air show

Bengaluru is set to host Aero India 2025, Asia’s largest air show, from February 10-14, at the Indian Air Force (IAF) Yelahanka airbase.

What’s it about? Organised by the Ministry of Defence with support from agencies like HAL, DRDO, and the Civil Aviation Ministry, the event will feature exciting performances from IAF’s Sukhoi fighters, the Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team, and the Sarang Helicopter Display Team.

  • Aero India 2025 will be a crucial platform for aviation giants Boeing and Dassault Aviation, as they compete for multi-billion-dollar fighter jet deals with India.
  • Boeing’s F-16/18 and Dassault’s Rafale jets are vying for these contracts.

HAL in fray: Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), maker of the Tejas fighter jet, is also looking to secure deals with developing nations in the Middle East, South America, and Southeast Asia.
