Skydeck near NICE Road
S

Good morning, Bengaluru!

šŸŒ§ļø Today’s weather: High: 26 ā„ƒ | Low: 20 ā„ƒ | Generally cloudy sky with light rain.

šŸ§ Did you know? There are nearly 1,000 temples, 400 mosques, 100 churches, three Gurudwaras, two Buddhist viharas and even a fire temple in the city.

šŸ—ļø Skydeck location finalised

Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister DK Shivakumar has announced the finalisation of the location for a new 250-metre Skydeck.

What’s it about? The Skydeck is set to be constructed near NICE Road, with unanimous agreement from opposition leaders and BJP MLAs. The project, requiring about 25 acres, will be built on land currently held by NICE Road promoters.

  • This land is part of a larger area that the promoters are required to transfer to the government following a Supreme Court order.
  • Other potential sites considered for the project were the NGEF land at Byappanahalli, Sandal Soap Factory near Yeshwantpur, Bengaluru Universityā€™s Jnanabharathi campus, and Kommaghatta.

Centreā€™s concerns: The NGEF land was ruled out due to its proximity to Bengaluru’s old airport. Shivakumar mentioned that the exact site within the NICE Road area is still being finalised, and the projectā€™s height had raised some reservations from the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation.

šŸš‚ K-RIDE tender floated

K-RIDE (Rail Infrastructure Development Company (Karnataka) Ltd) has issued a tender for the much-anticipated Corridor-1A of the Bengaluru Suburban Railway Project.

Whatā€™s it about? This development comes amidst growing demands from activists for improved connectivity between Bengaluru City and the airport. The tender for this phase of the project is valued at ā‚¹1,422 crore.

  • The corridor will connect Bengaluru railway station to Yelahanka railway station.
  • The second phase, extending from Yelahanka to the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA), will soon follow.

Tender details: The tender package includes the design and construction of an elevated viaduct stretching 14.213 kilometres, an at-grade formation of 3.417 kilometres, the construction of seven station buildings, and a Railway Over Bridge.

šŸ¶ Dog meat or goat?

Controversy erupted in the city on Friday over the alleged transportation of dog meat.

What’s it about? Police seized 90 insulated boxes containing 2,700kg of meat that had arrived by train from Jaipur, sparking protests from activists at the railway station. However, officials clarified that the packages contained chevon (goat meat), not dog meat.

  • Police registered three FIRs on the night of the incident. The first FIR addressed the suspicion that the transported meat might have been mixed with dog meat.
  • The second FIR targeted cow vigilante Puneet Kerehalli for obstructing food quality department officials. The third FIR was against Puneetā€™s associates for unlawful assembly.

Source of confusion: K Srinivas, the commissioner of food safety, stated that the meat was from a special breed of goat called Sirohi, which is commonly found in Rajasthan and Gujarat. He explained that the goats have slightly elongated tails and spots, which might have caused the confusion.

šŸ“² New pothole app

Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister DK Shivakumar launched the ā€˜Road Pothole Attentionā€™ mobile application.

What’s it about? In collaboration with the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), the app aims to bring transparency and efficiency to pothole identification and repair across Bengaluruā€™s road network by leveraging advanced technology.

  • The app uses GPS technology to map all the roads under BBMPā€™s jurisdiction.
  • The app identifies potholes by their latitude and longitude, records their dimensions, and generates specific orders for their repair.

About the app: The ā€˜Road Pothole Attentionā€™ app is accessible to BBMP officials, Bangalore Traffic Police Department officials, and the general public. Residents can report potholes directly to the authorities through the app, enhancing community involvement in maintaining road safety and quality.
